The Meze 99 Neo is more than just a good sounding headphone. The look and feel of it combined with the sound provided all add up to make it an experience that’s quite unique.

I think the slightly more consumer-orientated 99 Neo is going to appeal to a very wide, if somewhat younger, demographic so the price point of $249 represents very good value if you are indeed that target market.

The sound follows a similar flavor to what you get with the 99 Classics, which made our list of the best audiophile headphones, but the Neo's have a more prominent low end and a slightly lusher midrange.

As a result, MEZE 99 NEO surprised me in every way: they look and feel expensive, are amazingly comfortable to wear, and give a very warm, natural and velvety sound. For the price, these are the best closed-back headphones. I’m really into the Meze signature sound and am delighted with their versatility!

Blessedly, Neo is just as capable in the soundstage as the 99C, being one of the widest and deepest closed-back headphones on the market.

My ears said clearly - this sound is great [...] They are a bit braver, more focused on dynamics and neutrality. Music is more vivid and concrete.

Once again, I fully recommend giving 99 Neo a chance, especially if you are looking for a headphone in this price bracket, as it is one of the most interesting entries you can find and you might fall in love with the sound!

Overall, the differences aren’t huge. Meze 99 Neo is as much, if not more, 99 Classic as a twenty times washed Van Halen t-shirt is a Van Halen t-shirt. It should please those looking for a rougher, more tumbly listen that follows the original as closely as possible.

Meze have provided us with a great, natural, organic sound that demonstrates how linearity is just as impressive as neutrality.

These headphones are warm and wide with plenty of bass control, in addition, they are very light and offer a comfortable fit. I believe these Meze 99 Neo headphones are exceptional at this price and, without hesitation, I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a pair of headphones to travel with.

We enjoyed our time with the 99 Neo and wholeheartedly recommend them to folks looking for relatively inexpensive high-end portable closed-back headphones.

The Meze 99 Neo are extremely comfortable thanks to a unique self-adjusting headband made from PU leather. Combine that with the light 9.2-ounce weight of the Meze 99 Neo headphones and they feel like a floating cloud on your head.

The bass line is nice and full regardless of the type of genre you listen to. Meze Audio 99 Neo exhibits a great deal of depth without becoming muddy.

The Meze 99 NEO are another great performing headphone from the brand that can be safely recommended to any listener who enjoys very warm, inviting, cozy and pleasant sound but who's audio standards require a sound signature that does not get over-recessed neither in brightness, detail and female vocal ranges.

The Meze 99 Neo are a great complement to its older sibling the Meze 99 Classic and both echo the sonics of the earphone series which also match up wood against synthetic materials.

The comfort, noise isolation and build quality is exactly what we have come to expect from Meze and when coupled with the very musical, clean and ultimately enjoyable sound quality, these headphones should be a very strong consideration for you if you’re looking for a wonderful pair of portable full-sized headphones!

The strengths of the 99 Neo are its good spatiality. the great stage and the almost too dominant start in the super high tone...

My ears did enjoy their time with the Neo’s though and they are still very good headphones.

The 99 Neo’s sound is clear and richly balanced, and these closed-back over-the ear headphones do a good job hushing external noise.

The 99 Neo is a great addition to Meze’s lineup. As Meze’s “entry-level” headphones, I find it to have a pretty great value, especially for those who don’t particularly want the extra luxury of wooden ear cups or fully-Kevlar cables. All in all, I can say I recommend the Meze 99 Neo.
